I played with the Matlab demo, too. It is rather awful, but I don't
think that Fink has anything to do with it. It is possible, though, that
the opengl stuff in xfree86 is not installed precisely like Matlab wants.
I also saw frequent freezes, but also other bugs like absence of
backward delete in text input fields. Concerning the bench 3D demo, I
got it to work by commenting out the line
set(s,'facelighting','gouraud')
in the file $MATLAB/toolbox/matlab/demos/bench.m
The benchmark performance is ridiculous.
