If I knew how to write software, I would already be working on "Linux-on-Mac" instead of discussing it here. ;) Don't let the name fool you, it actually IS my name (and a fairly common one among people of Germanic descent). I am no developer nor do I have any delusions of being one. I like to fool around with java a little bit and can write shell scripts like anybody else (although I'm a bit rusty on bash syntax, still have the book to look it up should I need too), but I couldn't write serious code at this point to save my life. I just like open-source software, both for quality and ethics. Back when I first decided to boycott Microsoft I installed Red-Hat and, although frustrated by how hard it was to set up, was deeply impressed with the quality of the apps after I finally got it running, especially the Gimp, but I'm no 'nix guru, not by a long shot.
As for Apple switching to Intel, I sincerely hope not. I like the PowerPC architecture MUCH more than the x86. I like efficiency. I like RISC processing and hope to NEVER go back to PC's, not even ones with the Apple logo on them. It's really a moot point, anyway. I thought it would be a good idea and was hoping that someone here who actually does know how to write software would think it was such a good idea that he/she would do it. Guess not. No big deal. I'm just glad that I was FINALLY able to get the Gimp running under 10.2, that's the main app I wanted, I can wait on everything else. ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Fink-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users
