I have successfully been using 10.2 w/ Fink on my G3 Powerbook laptop. I have built KDE and quite a few other programs that take a while to build and updated.
I'm getting set to update my iMac which is also a G3. Previously I used the iMac as a build host for the Powerbook when I was running 10.1.5. I have a CD-Burner and my iMac has a small hard drive. (Which I will probably upgrade if I can figure out how to save it and restore to a new hard drive - but that is not a fink problem). I would like to be able every now and then to simply take a snapshot of my fink installation, so that I would be able to install everything from a CD (or two). This strikes me as a great way to move from one machine to another as well as have a backup in case of disaster without the rather consuming task of rebuilding packages from cvs. What would I need to do. Is it enough to simply burn the /sw directory to a CD? Has anyone considered simply making an ISO image? Also, I have an external firewire drive which I could attach to different machines. Could I use that as a repository and then attach the drive to machines when I wanted to install the Fink binaries? I know I could just use a binary installation, but that would require an internet connection and not always be up to date (though it is getting better) -- Josh Kuperman [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Fink-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users
