[Fink-users] [OT] Getting a remote computer to recognize X11 window

I apologize for the off topic post, but I thught someone could give me help. We are having trouble getting our Unix machines to recognize the X11 windows from OSX. So i can say telnet into the machine (either a Sun or an SGI), can give regular commands, but if I try running Nedit say, it gives an error that it can't open the display. I have tried changing the display setting in the environment to what I thought would be correct, but with no success.

Any suggestions appreciated.
