They are built but not installed:  the various */binary-darwin-powerpc
directories are just repositories for debs that you build.  When you
have a deb in these directories for a package that's not installed, Fink
Commander shows "archived".

Actually, no:  selfupdate-cvs requires you to have a fink.old
directory.  It doesn't save much space anyway, because all of the .debs
get moved to /sw/fink.

Install the packages first--they won't be listed as archived anymore.
That being said, you can freely delete any deb files on your
system--they are all just archives which aren't essential for your
packages to function.
