Charles C. Kankelborg sez: } I wrote the letter not to incite a specific response from Apple, but to } raise their awareness of the impact of open source generally, and fink } specifically, in their user base. All gut, no proposals. Is it worth } the effort? Hey, it's my stamp.
I suspect that your letter as written will, at best, raise the awareness of one non-tecnical person who is responsible for opening undirected mail. You can hope for a boilerplate letter thanking you for your feedback, with no further direct or indirect results. } Sure, one could ask Apple for some more specific support. I would feel } a little silly doing that without some proposal from the Fink community } on the table. If there were one well-defined idea to rally behind, then } that could inspire some more effective lobbying of Apple. In that } spirit, I wonder if there is any concensus in this forum as to what, if } any, support we wish Apple would lend to Fink? Well, what does Fink really need that Apple can provide? I think the absolute best thing would be if Fink package management and Apple's installer would converge, thus guaranteeing working package removal and such. I don't think Apple would be willing to do such a thing, though, since it would break all existing .pkg files. } Best regards, } Charles --Greg ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: ApacheCon, November 18-21 in Las Vegas (supported by COMDEX), the only Apache event to be fully supported by the ASF. http://www.apachecon.com _______________________________________________ Fink-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/fink-users
