My problem was that I had a mixture of both tetex 2.0-2 and bundle-tetex
20020808-7 installed.  I removed all tetex installations and reinstalled,
and doxygen went in just fine.

I haven't installed KDE 3.1 on a Linux machine yet, to see if the same
behavior arises when, say, a screen saver exits.  Someday...
