OK--that's clearer to me.

I'd have to say it depends on the package:  some actually have Darwin
versions, so that it will compile right away with no problems.  Some will
work if you have installed special packages that provide headers and the
like that OSX doesn't have but the package wants.  Some require patching,
and some just flat don't work.

Maybe post an example.
