Ouch!  You make a clear case for just copying the .info/.patch files over
to local when you want to play around with unstable.

You may not need to blow all of fink away.  Try this:

1)  Verify that bundle-gnome points to the stable version with "fink list
bundle-gnome"
2)  If so, try installing bundle-gnome.  If not, then do another "fink
selfupdate-cvs" to unconfuse things.
3)  If there are any specific problems, check in on the list.
