I don't think so : i don't care about various options of sane if
nothing is said about connecting my scanner for my particular OS
(sample files are for Linux or *BSD) ;-)
The only thing i've found is in sane-epson:
USB A device file that is preceded by the string "USB"
is treated as a scanner connected via the Universal
Serial Bus. The correct special device file has to
be created prior to using it with Sane. See the USB
documentation for more information about how to set
up the USB subsystem and the required device files.
Well, that's a little "sparse" from my point of vue...

Already done, thanks to Google, but nothing change (and, BTW, it's not
what the man page claims).
IMHO, this problem is not related to sane, nor to the fink package,
but to the lack of doc about USB subsystem, at least on my box.

where ? where is it documented ? The only doc i've found about libusb
is how to writing C code to use it :(
On NetBSD, dmesg gives some useful hints when i connect a USB device,
but nothing with OS X : i know the scanner is recognized, because
Image Capture see it, but, on a lower level basis, i still don't know
how to handle it.
