Yes to both.

You can just remove all of /usr/X11R6 ("sudo rm /usr/X11R6") and then
install beta3 again.  You don't even have to remove system-xfree86, but I
would suggest reinstalling ("fink reinstall") it, just in case.

Also, Ben Reed is working on a system-xfree86 for XFree86-4.3 -- and
presumably the new Apple X11, when it's out).
