With regard to the your 1st suggestion I received the following output which details only the following "placeholder xfree86 package.

Package: system-xfree86
Status: install ok installed
Version: 2:4.3-1
provides: x11, x11-shlibs, libgl, libgl-shlibs, xft2, xft1-shlibs, xft2-shlibs, rman, fontconfig1, fontconfig1-shlibs, xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs, xfree86-base-threaded
description: [placeholder for user installed x11]

As for your second suggestion I was trying to install a group of window managers bundled with X11 Extension a package available at http://www.macfworks.tk/. I was not prompted to choose any x11 related packages.

"Archived" means the packages are built but not installed.

The answers to a couple of questions may shed some light on what's going on:

1) What do you get if you run "fink-virtual-pkgs" in a terminal window? You
should have one or more "system-xfree86" packages if your X11 installation
is set up correctly.

2) What packages were you trying to install? And were you prompted to
choose among a bunch of different X11-related packages? If you were, then
you should always answer system-xfree86, even though it isn't listed as
default.

Subject: [Fink-users] Conflicts with panther, apple X11 and xfree86-shlibs

I am trying to install various packages with a script that is bundled
with the X11 Extension software and am getting the following repeating
errors noting a conflict with xfree86-shlibs. Specifically, the message
is as follows:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
   xfree86-shlibs: Conflicts: xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs
Conflicts: system-xfree86 but 2:4.3-1 is to be
installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or
specify a solution).

I have system 10.3.1 with Apple X11 SDK and Apple X11 with Fink 0.6.2
installed on my machine. On the fink side I have system-xfree86 2:4.3-1
installed, as well as, xfree86-shlibs 4.3.0-1. xfree86-base-threaded,
xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs, and xfree86-rootless-threaded-shlibs are
all in "archive" status as noted in finkcommander version 0.5.1

Thanks in advance for any help resolving this problem!
