Well, this is a misunderstanding which could have been avoided if you had simply stated that the membership would be not be required to get fink.
I agree with Dave Morrison, when he stated that offering memberships puts on fink additional obligations. We are having difficulties at present meeting the basic goals of fink. And true, memberships will bring in money, but that money won't make it any easier to put out a stable, well-regarded product. In other words, computer speeds are not the rate-limiting factor. Inability to jet-set across the planet to meet is not a rate-limiting factor.
Maybe after things stabilize a bit, then maybe fink can offer mailed CDs or something. That's my two bits about it anyway.
Why do you have two names?Darian Lanx is a very old Handle from BBS times and I am loathe giving it up :)
