I note that there is no longer a maintainer listed for Gnumeric. A search of the archives suggests Gnumeric 1.2.5-11 still won't print; if anyone has found a solution (other than saving in another format or reverting to v1.0.13), would you please share it?

I could be wrong, but I believe these two posts and their follow-ups explain why gnome-print doesn't print anymore on Mac OS X/darwin:

If I am right, it looks quite bad. They replaced fontmap with fontconfig in gnomeprint. There is a fontconfig in Apple's system, but apparently it doesn't work with gnomeprint. There is also a fink fontconfig. I don't know if that would work.
