...which is what previous posts have also mentioned. I realize patience is needed until some volunteer kindly tackles the problem.

Stan, what I meant was that rebuilding gnumeric after installing fontconfig wouldn't help. You'd have to rebuild gnome-print instead. But that probably wouldn't help either if the system's fontconfig got used anyway.


But don't sweat it. I'll try to look into it some more and try to pin down which part is broken. It may very well be that those two links I posted were totally unrelated.

I intended no criticism of your answer; I am grateful for your attention and response. I didn't realize that gnome-print should be rebuilt (in the remote chance that fontconfig2 was relevant). I'll try that and let you know if it proves to correct the problem.
