Hi,
I'm running Mac OS X 10.2.8, fink package manager 0.20.2, fink distribution 0.7.0.cvs. /sw/fink/dists is a link to 10.2-gcc-3.3.
I have fink's xfree86-4.3.0-16 installed, and I'd like to upgrade to XFree86 4.4.
The FAQs I found all refer to XFree86 4.2 and 4.3. and fink versions around 0.17. Do they still apply?
They should.
Can I forcibly remove (dpkg --purge) fink's xfree86 packages, follow the XFree86 web site's instructions for installing the binary distribution of XFree86 4.4, and expect good results?
Assuming that it works on Jaguar, this should work just fine--Fink will generate all of the system-xfree86* packages for you.
Will there be a fink package (source or binary) for XFree86 4.4 for Jaguar?
Check with the maintainer (Ben Reed). I do know that the extant Fink XFree86-4.4 package relies on the Apple acceleration stuff that only is available in Panther.
Thanks, Dan Sommers
