Try exporting :0 or :0.0 for the DISPLAY. Note also that if you use fast
user switching and start a second X11 for a second user, the X server
witll run on :1 instead of :0, so you need to set DISPLAY to :1.
I do run fast user switching, so I changed DISPLAY to :1. When I try to run emacs I get the following:
/sw/bin/emacs21 -d :1 emacs: Cannot connect to X server :1. Check the DISPLAY environment variable or use `-d'. Also use the `xauth' program to verify that you have the proper authorization information needed to connect the X server. An insecure way to solve the problem may be to use `xhost'.
I can still start other apps in X11 including xemacs with no problems. I erased my .Xauthority file thinking it might be corrupt. When I started X11 again it wrote another default .Xauthority file, but I still have the same problem. Any more ideas?
