Hi, on the advice of Michele I add that I use mac os 10.3.8 (I reported it at the bottom of the message, but should have reported it more obviously.)
Also following Michele's advice, I tried to run 'fink install libsoup-ssl' and 'fink install libsoup-ssl-shlibs', and both failed with apparently the same error message.
