Yes, the new pkgconfig is definitely broken. It doesn't honor the
Requires: field in the pc files. Example:
% pkg-config --version
0.17.2
% pkg-config --libs libgnome-2.0

versus
% pkg-config --version
0.15.0
% pkg-config --libs libgnome-2.0
-L/sw/lib -lgnome-2 -lpopt -lbonobo-2 -lgconf-2 -lgnomevfs-2
