This problem seems to be caused by a font problem. It can be
solved by
removing some Vera fonts:

sudo mkdir -p /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF.bad
sudo mv /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/Vera*.ttf
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF.bad

Is this the reason why my konsole windows now look so disgusting?
Somehow Vera Sans Mono disappeared. How can I get it back? I'm trying
a fink update now, will get back in a few days ;-)

If you used the two commands I gave above, the Vera fonts will obviously be unavailable to your system. Try to restore only the Sans Mono, perhaps this one doesn't trigger the division by zero bug. Or use another font for the
Terminal, like Monaco.

Well, I never used anything like the commands you give above. The Bitstream Vera fonts simply disappeared (e.g. from xlsfonts) after the Apple X11 1.1.2 update. Looking deeper in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/ fonts/TTF revealed that the files are still there, but they are not recognized by fc-cache. I downloaded the Bitstream Vera 1.10 package from gnome and replaced the TTF files, ran

sudo mkfontscale
sudo mkfontdir
sudo fc-cache -vf .
xset fp rehash

in above mentioned directory, and now it works: starting a new konsole gives me the possibility to select my beloved Bitstream Vera Sans Mono Regular 11pt again :-)

Ciao,
                    Roland
