FYI: I tried wiping and reinstalling fink from scratch. After doing so, and trying to install vim (firstly installing gtk+2, I got this error:)
grep: /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.la: No such file or directory sed: /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.la: No such file or directory libtool: link: `/usr/local/lib/libfreetype.la' is not a valid libtool archive (which was for /sw/bin/dpkg-lockwait -r fink-buildlock-gtk+2-2.6.10-1003) Could this be a problem with that file, or is this merely a curveball? I'm brutishly guessing that this is an Apple-supplied file?
