Is installing Fink _all_ that you did? I've seen this problem, and to my recollection it was unrelated to Fink on my machine--i.e. Oo.org worked after I installed Fink, and stopped after I did something else, namely update to an unofficial X11 server from macosxforge.org . There seems to be an incompatibility with that. My workaround is to use the release candidate for the Aqua-based Openoffice 3.
