Kurt:

Wait until Monday, October 13th (yes manic monday) for the Release of 
OpenOffice.org 3.0 for MacOSX (as well as many other operating systems.)

Since this will be an Aqua version of the program, you will not have to use X11 
anymore, unless you wish to use OpenOffice.org 2.4.1.
