Kurt:

I used to be the lead for testing of the Mac OS X version of OpenOffice.org,
just as a background.

If you visit the site and look for the timeline, the release date for
OpenOffice.org 3.0/StarOffice 10.0 was set almost six months ago. It has been
a great deal of work to get to the release.

There should be an announcement of the release sometime this weekend, if not
today.

Also, there will be PPC releases as well. There is a fine gentlemen, Mr. Maho
Nakata, who has graciously been building PPC versions and submitting fixes to
allow for the differences between the two.

As to your problem with X11 not working properly, I agree with A. Hansen that
installing another program destroyed your xinitrc file. I've been using
OpenOffice.org and building it for over three years. Never once did my X11
stop working. I've also been tracking the MacOSXforge XQuartz effort and not
one of their builds caused problems with OpenOffice.org other than a known
problem with MacOSX 10.5 and the startup script which has been fixed.
