My gnome installation is messed up, so I want to remove it and reinstall it.
How do I do this? I gather I use gnome-base. I could not find out how to do
this from any info files.

Also, I have Xquartz set for full-screen. I apparently should have set it for
rootless, because Apple's Menubar and Apple's Dock are inaccessible and the
windows slide under GNOME's upper menubar. I cannot change the Xquartz
preferences back to rootless, because I can not get to Apple's menubar! I
found Xquartz.plist under /opt/X11 etc., but throwing it out did not do any
good. Are there any other preference files for Xquartz or X11 I could throw
away?

Hopefully, someone can help. Thanks
