The compilation in the swap volume took much longer than I assumed. It also reached this:

And then the build process continued with: if false; then \ rm -rf stage2-*; \ echo timestamp > stage2-lean; \ fi Around the time when the comparison was performed I had a low disk warning when the build was happening inside the Fink installation. So it seems that some large amount of data is written to disk around this time. I'll try to clean a bit more and see if gcc47 rebuilds on the HFSX volume.
