There's nothing, however, preventing us from doing this in principle.
The buildworld tool that Hanspeter mentioned builds noninteractively.
And mutually exclusive packages (say A and B) are no problem, since you
can get file information out of packages which are built but not
installed as well (dpkg -c <filename>).
