Ok, it works, seems like maybe there was an error with sed or something.
I've installed gnu sed and awk locally (outside of fink) in /usr/local, but
sh doesn't seem to be using my path. Linking it in /usr/bin seems to work.
After bootstrap, running the selfupdate with cvs works.
