Hanspeter,
     I see the issue now. You must be using the ancient system bash 3.2
shell instead of the fink bash 4.3.18 package. It turns out that both fink
and MacPorts exhibits the same breakage in bash-complete when trying to use
it under the old 3.2 release. So we probably need to add a legacy
bash-completion package to provide the old 1.3 release for system bash
users.
