The story is similar in some ways to the famous McDonalds coffee case. Stripped of all the important details, it sounds outrageous (woman get $3M from McDonalds because she spilled coffee on herself) but once you find out all the facts, the verdict seems reasonable. Tim
Opinions differ, which is one of the reasons why we need tort reform, even if it must come piecemeal starting with guns and, perhaps, docs. Coffee is supposed to be about 190 and treated that way; if it was 212, so what? Three million wasn't reasonable unless one employee held the woman down while another deliberately scalded her with boiling coffee. PHB
