Jim makes a good point about JDBC accounting for probably 80+% of modern database access. Every young developer knows Java and JDBC, and the standard makes it easy for tool developers to support the database. |
Due to legacy reasons (IB, Borland, etc), Firebird is still very related to Delphi. Many years ago, I ran a poll at FireBase so people could indicate what language they use to access Firebird, and 84% used Delphi.
Back in 2008, I ran similar pool at FirebirdNews, and Delphi got 64% of the votes. Java got 5%. Total votes were 887.
I guess now (2014), Delphi still represents at last 50% of our user base.
