   Why a prototype? FIB+, IBX, UIB, IBObject - all of them are "wrappers around 
handlers", 
all of them are easy to use (they match design of DB-aware part of VCL/FCL) and 
all of 
them are mature, tested by years products with enormous userbase. Are you 
seriously going 
to drop all this into trash can?..
   In IBPhoenix Replicator I made thin OO wrappers around ISC API, OCI and ODBC 
for both 
C++ and Delphi. All these interfaces are handle-based if you don't know. All 
the wrappers 
are made in style you refused to look at. All of them are fast and robust.
