List,
My high dollar ($9000) 455 engine, built by an alleged
Pontiac "Guru" from Longmont, Colorado (actually
recommended in Jim Hands book, look him up there and
stay away from him) is a write off. The only thing
salvagable are the heads. Car had 9 miles on it. All
bearing disintegrated. The "Geru" thought he would
save himself some labor and charged me for turning the
crank. He never did this, just polished it and left it
standard. The bearings self destructed because of too
much clearance.
The "Guru" will accept no responsibility and will not
answer my phone calls. Great customer relations, Huh?
Judge Judy time, I guess.
This issue is beside the point, but thanks for letting
me vent. I have a line a couple of 455 engines here in
the Denver area. One is a complete engine still in
the original car. It is in a 75, large body. I have
heard that there were changes in the bocks around this
time. At least in the 400 blocks.
Are there any years better than others for 455 blocks?
If so what are the differences?
Thanks,
Larry, Denver
