same deal with the restoration bodies... there will be fakes touted as
originals..

My car was rear ended.... and the back end sheet metal is all new. The car
is NOT original, and never will be again. There is no way of hiding that.

I think that replacing all the sheetmetal is ok

The first two options are exactly the same.... hiddne vins or not, it's the
same thing.

If I am going to pay 50-100k for a RESTORED NUMBERS MATCHING CAR I expect
the motor to be the ORIGINAL motor that it came with at the dealer. If it
doesn't have it, it's not original no matter what. Restamped or not, I would
be PISSED if I found out the block was restamped. finding those parts is
something that is a challenge. You can get close, but you will probably not
find the correct motor. Replacing sheetmetal with original is ok,
aftermarket, forget it! This also goes for the transmission, rear, dist,
carb, etc, date codes and numbers better be correct! If not, I would pass it
up.

I am beyond picky with cars.... The only aftermarket sheet metal on my car
is the trunk lid, the rest was taken from a car that someone chopped the
roof and front end off of.

While I am not ever planning to be in the numbers matching original group, I
think the idea of it would be awesome! If i could ever afford it, I would
love to have a numbers matching RAII '68.

Otherwise I'll continue to build my car the way I want... :-) Oh yeah it was
completely numbers matching until I replaced the transmission. Down to the
carb. Too bad it was a 2bbl 350 car. I am keeping all the parts though so
that one day if the bug bites me, I can return it to factory original.
