First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... David,
Once you bolt the adapter to the aluminum spacer, there should be enough room to mount a filter. Here's a shot of my long branch manifold I bought from CI, with the adapter in place, but no filter. This is on a 400. http://home.netcom.com/~fbird68/engine/engine_right.jpg

First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... I just bolted up my long branch manifolds and the passenger side manifold hits the oil filter, even though I installed the adapter that tilts the filter rearward. I bought everything from R.A.R.E., so I thought it would just bolt on and work. There is not even enough room to install the top stud or exhaust pipe flange. Is there a different piece that the oil filter screws onto that I need to use? Mine is the original part for a 1972 455 engine (mounted to the R.A.R.E. aluminum adapter). I spent about an hour at the parts store looking for a very short oil filter and came up empty handed. Does anyone here know if there is a short filter available? If there is a short filter, will I have to unbolt the exhaust pipe to change filters? The only other idea I have is to buy an oil filter relocation kit. I found the Trans Dapt 1120 at Jegs and Summit. Does anybody have any experience (good or bad) with this kit, or another suggestion for a kit to relocate the filter? If I have to go this way, where is the best place to mount the remote oil filter? Thought that I would have the engine back in the car by now, but I need to get this issue worked out first. Any help will be greatly appreciated... Thanks, David Learner
