The only way I can see that happening is that the wrong diameter seal
was used (there are two sizes for the Pontiacs).

I have had a mixed bag.
My 400 viton seal is great, but the one on my 428 build would not install
correctly. Yes I followed the instructions to the T. it would lock up my
crank...
So I went with the rope and it does not leak at all.
