I recently had my car repainted. They stripped it to bare metal by using
aircraft stripper, then a DA sander. Seemed to go pretty quickly. Is
blasting it that much better/faster?

Don't know about soda but a friend of mine had his 69 camaro blasted inside and
out with walnuts. The place that did it told him that it's critical that you
don't overdo it on the door panels and other large sufaces. They said the
blasting gets it pretty hot and if it gets too hot it will warp the panels and
once they are warped it's just about impossible to fix them. It cost him $1000
for the blasting and then he had it all epoxy primed for another $1000.
