Just stick a 1/8" wire/rod up between the OD of the ring gear and the shaft of the starter. There's supposed to be approx 1/8" clearance there. I need to get the starter gear to engage/move forward to check the gap. I think the manual shows the procedure, i.e. Fig. 6E-9, p. 6 of Engine Electrical. Is this how to do it?
