Definetely start with a MIG. I used a MIG for years and recently bought a
TIG. I find the TIG doesn't get used as much as I thought it would. It's
nice for aluminum, or making a pretty weld, like a set of headers, but the
time it takes to TIG is about twice that of a MIG. Also consider the the
initial cost. You can get set up to MIG weld for less than $1000. A decent
TIG will cost twice that.

I am getting ready to go and buy a welder. What do you guys suggest, TIG
or a MIG with gas. I am going to be doing a ton cut and paste body work
(not on my firebird) I have plenty of experience with a MIG and a little
with TIG. I am fairly good with both but I am just wondering which one
would be better for the application.
