Jim, the exsisting battery cable was not long enough for me. I mounted mine
on the inner fender in the large cavity behind the wheel and inside of the
fender. Never had problems. Also you may want to upgrade the battery cable
to a larger gauge cable.
Another thing is that you can usually use the same stock solenoid wires.

I found that it did not cure my hot start problems but it sure did cut down
on them!

Basically you put the ford part inline on the battery cable and attach it
like you would normally. then jumper the posts of the stock solenoid.

It is really easy to do and MUCH cheaper to put your own together than use
the "kits"
