Well, I for one am sorry to see Pontiac in this state. While much of their product of late has been poor, I really did like my 2000 Formula WS6, and I did like the 2004-6 GTO, and I do think that the G8s are very good cars. I can't just write Pontiac off because of some lackluster product in recent years. Maybe it's because the 5 Firebirds that I've owned over my lifetime, and the many great Pontiacs that I didn't own, but felt inspired by. I still remember the day I saw my first '69 Trans Am. I was only 14, and that car's image seared itself into my conciousness as I saw it cruising our small town streets for two summers before
vanishing, back in the early 70's.

Over the years Bonnevilles, Venturas, GTOs, Tempests, LeMans, Trans Ams and
Formulas, as well as Safari's, Grand Prix' all made lasting impressions on me that will never go away. They remind me of a time when Pontiac was the brand name
that oozed excitement and power.

I'd like to think that the General can get back on it's feet, and when it does, that some really special cars carrying the arrowhead emblem will still be among the product line. Sadly, some of the people running Pontiac and GM since the 70's
were better at running investment companies or building appliances. They
weren't car guys. Car guys understand the passion people have for the automobile.
Clearly, GM's management seemed to lack that understanding at times.

I don't think that the last interesting Pontiacs went away with the loss of it's own unique V8. The third and fourth gen Firebirds are proof. So were the Fieros,
Solstices, GTOs, supercharged Grand Prix, and now the G8s. These were all
"driver's cars" in the truest sense.

Long live Pontiac.

GM and Pontiac can blame itself. Who ever came up with the Pontiac
"Aztec" SUV to camp out in should be put on trial for lunacy. What a waste of money that is now sorely needed. Same can be some for some of the generic bombs they were putting out in the 1980s and 1990s until just recently. You could not tell if they were a Chevy, Olds or Pontiac. I guess their idea of success was producing rental cars. They pull the plug just as Pontiac was coming out with super racy and slick models. The G8 GVC is a super hot car. Great American corporate thinking in years past. Al in L.A. - 69 Convertible
