Subject: [FGF] Frustrated with Q-jet - feedback on Edlebrook - 69 400 TH400

I bought a proper # Q-jet and rebuilt it. Found that someone had monkeyed with
it before and plugged a couple idle circuts and some other things. It's a lot
better then the wroing QJ that was on my engine but it seems to bind and does
not want to return to idle. It seemed fine on the bench. The idle screws
don't work evenly either, turning one in will kill the engine but turning the
other in does not. The choke mechanism sucks too. Anyway I"m really
frustrated and wondering if I should just by an Edlebrook. My 64 T-bird has
the precuser to the current Edlebrooks, a Carter, and it idles and runs very
smooth.

Who's swapped their QJ for an Edlebrook, esp if you had a TH400 - how is the
downshift switch handled???? Does the factor Air Cleaner fit without adaptors?
That's the biggest problem on my T-bird, the factory air cleaner hits stuff
and I have to use a spacer to lift the air cleaner up and it almost hits the
hood. I really want to keep the factory air cleaner.

Jim
