I was just thinking about this horrible experience I had with my 94 firebird....I had mounted some amps to the "hump" in the trunk not having any idea the gas tank was right under there when I drove home and parked it the next day the smell would knok you right down...frantic I brought it to the dealer only to find one of the screws punctured the top of the tank...of course the stealer was all to happy to toss all my stuff back in the trunk and force me to fix my own tank (just being a kid I guess) the hole was just a small drywall screw but MAN did it stink.i tried to let it go but after 2 days I had that tank down and was mixing the old stnd by JB weld...ahhh the days of our youth....

Maybe the older cars dont work the same way, cause im sure something is leaking on this car somewhere...cant help it :(

you are goning to vent from the cap anyhow....

heck, ever you gas can is no fully sealed..and your garage does not smell.

only a frank leak will give you a bad odor...

Hey Joe said "Now unless you plan on driving inverted, a slight leak at
the top is no
big deal."

But a slight leak will cause a STRONG fuel odor if parked in your garage over night because the vapor still escapes even if the fuel itself doesnt......just
wanted to toss that out...
