Mine had burlap backing with cotton backing and cotton battening sewn on. The
cotton was around 1/4 -1/3 inch thick batting.  It was stitched to the burlap.
The burlap has some stiffening wires in it.    The hog rings pull the
reinforced part of the seat naterial (from the rear of the material)  against
the wire hoop in the spring, the thin cotton batting is cut out in a U shape
for clearance.  The hog rings hook around the fabric on the seat, pass through
the cotton batting and burlap to were it crimps around the steel support in the
frame.

It's quite an annoyance to put together.  One shop recommended adding
cheescloth or similar to allow the cushion to slide into place.

You will need strong hog pliers.  The seat has to be correct left to right and
front to rear for the splines in the seat cover to align with the heave
reinforcing rod in the spring.

The original seat upholstery has the bun on top of a thin blue cushion (from
what I recall) and then burlap sack type backing with wires in it to keep the
springs from eating away at the bun. I looked at my new CI buns and they appear
to have a backing built in. Can I put the CI buns directly over the springs? If
not, what kind of materials (from the wife's sowing box, etc.) are good to use?

BTW, I got new springs for the driver's seat. Wow, night and day difference in
firmness and height.

Thanks,

Sheen
