Hi Larry, welcome back... I've been in the same mode, busy time of the year for
me work wise etc... haven't been able to post. Anyway, SFC's are always a good
idea for the over all longevity of the structural integrity for years to come.
Not to
mention peace of mind for the few occasions when you really want to stomp on it
and give it a little trashing.

True, most of us may never fully need them or may not ever build the motors
past
400 HP to truly require them, I'd say it's cheap insurance for keeping things
where
they should be. I've seen a hand full of verts and even a few coupes with sheet
metal cracks & fatigue from flex stress by the rear 1/4 window channels. Global
West
sells a nice set that fits the verts with out Modification. They weld on to the
rear frame
rail and can be welded or bolted to the rear of the subframe.

Others are a bit more work... there are some cheaper square tube one you can
get for
about $80 that are notched for the verts, or you can get the others for coupes
and do
a notch yourself etc...

I have two sets I built a few years back that I was going to use, but have
decided I like
the cleaner look of the Global West units and plan on going that rout myself.
I'm planing
for many future mods down the road and over the years, so this is something I
don't feel
I can do with out in the long term I have enough body flex as it is with a
stock 73 455
& plan on pushing that up to past 400HP in the near future... eventually a 6
speed, more
agressive gearing etc... so, yeah, something I feel I will need...

Subject: Sub frame help
From: <[email protected]>

Hello list,

I have been out of the country and lurking in the rear for several months. I
have recently found some time and I am in the process of rebuilding and then
installing a 455 in my 68 Convertible. The original was prepared by Greg
Merrick but he did a very poor job of it and I pulled the ehgine out and am
selling off whatever good bits that remain.

I started over with a low milage engine out a hearse. The Block Shop, probably
the best in Denver, did the machcine work. It is presently in the assembly
stage.

I am wondering if anyone out there can advise me on the sub frames to
reinforce the the body integity that will be needed with the higher tourque
from the 455. Such things as Manufacturers, best quality, best design for
convertibles. tips and traps of installation. Other things that should be
replaced while undr the car for the installation procedure. Etc.

Also it would seem that the easiet way to install them would be to load the car
with weight representing passengers and support it level on all four wheels on
a lift or some type of supports and then install and weld the subframes in
place.

Please any comments or thoughts on this procedure. Please feel free to
critisize and point me in the right direction for a sucessful installation.
