First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Mike,
No, if you wanted posi instead of an open, you would need either a used GM style posi for the gear ratio you wanted, or you would need an aftermarket Eaton posi unit. The carrier that I have is a standard open carrier, no upgrades are possible. For a street cruiser, open carriers are great, no clutches to wear and everything always moves freely. You just have to realize your burnouts will always only leave one stripe. :) Thomas -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mike Obbink Sent: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 5:05 PM To: 'First Generation Firebird-L' Subject: RE: [FGF] Rear End First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List .......................................................................... Thomas, would I have to buy a carrier for a posi (and a Posi) or will a posi bolt to that carrier. BTW guys. I have no plan on doing this myself, just trying to gain knowledge and getting pieces together to have somebody do it for me. Thanks a lot guys! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Thomas R. I've got a set of 3.23 gears, an open carrier (that goes with the 3.23) , and a Richmond bearing/bushing rebuild kit for the 8.2 that I never used when re-building my rear. It's everything you need to move from a 2.x to a good 3.23 ratio. (Remember you have to switch carriers when moving up to the 3.23, since the 8.2 had 3 different carrier classes) I'd make a good deal to anyone that wants to buy. It's just sitting on my shelf.
