I agree.  If you look at diagrams of how the coolant flows, it flows  from 
the water pump into the block, flows towards the rear through the block and  
back forward through the heads then out the intake manifold and into the  
radiator.  If you pull the coolant out of the rear of the heads, that  
coolant doesn't get a chance to cool the heads.  Better to plug and keep  the 
water in the motor if you aren't running a heater core.

Are  you running a heater ? if so, that's how it is designed to run; From
the  back of the passenger head to the heater core. From the heater core
to the  water pump housing. That's it !!!!!

If not, just plug both the holes.  

Pontiac V8's never had a rear crossover. There really is no need.  
Neither does a chevy for that matter

Remember, the engineers knew  what they were doing. The engine was
designed without a rear crossover for  a  reason.
