Hmm, not sure if I there's less cooling with an outlet over #7 if anything there's more. From what I've heard over the years is there's less circulation around #7 [in stock configuration] and therefore it runs hotter. By adding a port at that end of the head increases circulation. Also, keep in mind, a .5" hose won't redirect that much volume considering the size of the main radiator hoses.
