Rick, obviously this guys knows nothing but thinks he does...
only 69TA came with spoilers...
the Camaros front "snowplow" (which I added to my car) and the Camaro
rear spoiler never came from the factory...some dealers added some ( I
have heard), otherwise owners have added them , mostly for "looks", but
some
(as I ) have them for added down force benefit...they tend to work at
speeds over 85 mph or so.....but were never an option on factory
firebirds...

I had my Coupe up to 138 mph one time and it handled like I was doing 60. This
was years ago and won't do that again. It had no spoiler at the time. I use to
like them but now I love the smooth uninterupted look of the first gens without
them. I also like seeing the P.O.N.T.I.A.C. on the trunk. on the 1967-68s. I
have seen them installed on the spoiler but like I said, I like the smoothness
without the spoilers now. I actually am thinking about removing the one I race
as it may be downforce but also alot of wind resistance and if your car is set
up right, you shouldn't need them. At around 115, just stick your hand out the
window and feel the resistance. I'd like to shed the mirrors and spoiler just
to see the mph change and et change if any. I can't believe when I painted my
first Firebird which I still have, I asked my wife,"Spoiler or no Spoiler"? .
She said spoiler and ever since I have regretted it. Now thats Love!! I like
them on others cars, just
not mine. As far as downward force, I have raced 5 first gens and most were
just over 100 mph to 115 in the 1/4 and 3 had them   and the other 2 didn't .
They all tracked just fine at the top end so its just preference whether you
want to drill your stock trunk lid or not. No more for me. Have I mentioned
that I don't care for them on my cars? Ugh!!! I think its an age thing.
Repeating myself.
