I recall someone said they put springs from a different car inside the OEM
springs.  I think it was springs from a volvo, but I'm not sure now.  This gave
a bit more support to balance the weight of the hood.   I would try that before
removing the original springs.  It could take a while to get all the settings
correct on aftermarket springs that bring the hood back  into correct
alighment.

Hi guys,

Has anyone replaced their hood hinges with aftermarkets? If yes, what
did you get and where did you get them from? I have to change them and I
don't want to buy junk. If I smash my head one more time I am going to take
a sledge hammer to them.

Thanks

Mace
